5) Go Daddy Web Hosting
4GH Hosting from GoDaddy- just $1.99/mo
Best-of-breed routers, firewalls and servers, FREE email addresses, Daily backup, 24/7 support, FREE setup and software,
FTP access and much more. GoDaddy is clearly paranoid about security (with good reason) the five servers we reviewed were all heavily secured with all the ‘dangerous’ PHP functions being disabled in some way or another.  As far as security of the actual OS goes the Linux boxes were all the latest kernel updates with what seemed to be custom patches added. In conclusion GoDaddy is clearly a safe choice for the paranoid user but for the average user it’s a bit overkill as alot of functions needed for some web apps today are disabled in someway or another. As far as rating goes this one gets a solid 10/10 for security, an 8/10 for pricing vs quality, and a 9/10 for customer service. Go Daddy Group of companies is the most trusted and reliable in the Web Industry with some amazing feature.

5 Tips : Taking Over Tumblr

While Facebook and Twitter were racking up hundreds of millions of users apiece, many of whom are largely inactive on the social networks, the microblogging site Tumblr was slowly accumulating its own large and much more dedicated user base. Smart companies, particularly content providers looking for another channel on which they can share their work, are already jumping onboard the Tumblr bandwagon and trying to leverage the site’s inherent shareability and young, tech-savvy users to help organically expand their audience and generate some viral buzz.

Of course, Tumblr can be just as useful for online merchants, as well, giving them a chance to show off their products on the site and introduce them to interested users who may not have heard of them otherwise. Since Tumblr is such an image-heavy site, merchants can display their products, include descriptions on their blogs (and automatically on their followers’ dashboards) and then link back to their online stores or specific product pages to continue the sale.

If you’re not on Tumblr yet, you should be. But just starting a blog isn’t enough to guarantee success (just ask, uh, thousands of people); so, here are five important tips that will help you master Tumblr from the get-go.

Find Followers
The first thing you have to do on Tumblr is find followers. These are the users who will automatically see your posts appear on their dashboards without having to search tags or go directly to your blog. Also, in theory, these are people who follow your blog because they’re interested in your content (or products), meaning they represent an outline of your target audience on the website.

Normally, the best way to build a list of followers is to search for and start following blogs in your niche that look interesting. You can find them by clicking on the “Find blog” tab on the right-hand side of your dashboard, and then filtering by category to look at “Spotlight” blogs. Or, you can search for specific tags or blog names in the search bar at the top of the dashboard to look for people posting content related to your industry, and then follow the blogs that appear in the results.

Tag Like a Fiend
There is absolutely no better way to get your content found on Tumblr than by just tagging posts with appropriate tags (e.g. descriptors), so that when other users search for those keywords, your posts will appear in the results. This will help people find your content and, consequently, your Tumblr blog, as well. Once people find your posts on the site, they will be able to like them, reblog them to show their own followers, click any links included in the post or visit and even follow your blog. The more tags you use, the more likely it is that a variety of different users will find your posts.

Reblog, But Be Smart
Reblogging the posts of other users is a great way to add more content to your own blog (especially when you’re just starting out) and capture the attention of the user’s your reblogging from, which is a great way to network on the site. However, just be sure that you don’t reblog so much that it overshadows your own original content or posts.

Ask and Answer
The golden rule of social media is to be social, and that remains true on Tumblr just as much as it does Facebook, Twitter and Google+. To do this, don’t be afraid to interact with blogs you’re interested in by just going to their “Ask Box” and submitting a question, comment or compliment. In addition, try your best to respond to any Ask Box or “fan mail” messages that you may receive, to ensure that you keep in contact with your followers, and anyone else who reads your blog.

Another fun trick is to ask a question in a text post or the caption section of an image or video post. Ending the post with a question mark brings up a box on the bottom left-hand side of the post editor that asks if you want to let people answer it. Checking the box enables comments, and anyone who reads your post on their dashboard will be able to respond.

Queue It Up
If you’re posting a lot of content over a few days, you can set up the posts in your queue to publish automatically, whether you’re online, at a baseball game or fast asleep. Simply create the post like you normally would, and then in the drop-down menu next to the “Publish” button, select “Publish on…” and set the exact date and time that you want the post to go up. Once you have some future posts set, a “Queue” tab will appear on your dashboard (under the “Followers” tab), and in there you can see your upcoming posts, and rearrange them using the up and down arrows on the upper-left-hand corner of each post.

Bonus: Add Text to Image Posts
Yes, people love pictures on Tumblr, and images are far more likely to go viral than text posts probably 99 percent of the time (not a scientifically verified number). But just posting a picture, while potentially viral on Tumblr, limits the chances of other people finding it on the Internet, such as through search engines. So, get a little meta and add a brief description that summarizes the contents of the picture in the caption area. Even if it’s just one or two words, it will still give the search engines an idea of what they’re looking at.

Pay Facebook to highlight you Status Updates To More Friends

Facebook is testing an option called “Highlight” that lets you pay a few dollars to have one of your posts appear to more friends. Highlight lets the average user, not Pages or businesses, select an “important post” and “make sure friends see this”,. A tiny percentage of the user base is now seeing tests of a paid version of Highlight, but there’s also a free one designed to check if users are at all interested in the option.
Highlight could show Facebook’s willingness to try more aggressive ways of making money, which should delight potential investors. But Facebook is playing with fire here. The service has always been free for users, and a pay-for-popularity feature could be a huge turn off, especially to its younger and less financially equipped users who couldn’t afford such narcissism.
The official statement from Facebook on this is:
“We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.”
I doubt Facebook is going to see positive reactions to Highlight, but if it did it could turn into an unpredicted revenue stream. Just the fact that Facebook would test this could bolster confidence for potential IPO investors. They want to know the company is interested in striking a more advertiser-friendly balance between a pure user experience and the goals of advertisers. That’s especially important now, as yesterday Facebook had to warn investors that its ad business is in jeopardy as more users access via mobile where it doesn’t show nearly as many ads.
The problem is the potential for Highlighted updates to reduce the general relevance of the news feed. Facebook’s news feed sorting algorithm is designed to show you posts by your closest friends or that have received a lot of Likes and comments. Highlight distorts this, and will encourage news feed spamming club promoters, musicians, small businesses, or anyone else with something to gain from more clicks.

HOW HIGHLIGHT WORKS
If you’re in the test group and post a status update, you’ll see the “Highlight” option next to the Like and comment buttons below it. If clicked you’re shown the prompt above. Depending on what version of the test you’re seeing you’ll either get a free Highlight, or have to pay a dollar or two for the extra news feed prevalence. Facebook’s testing different price points, but users always pay with a credit card or PayPal, never with its virtual currency Credits.
Highlighted posts may appear higher in the news feed, stay visible for longer, and appear to more friends and subscribers. However, they’re not colored differently to make them stand out. And to be clear, this is not like Twitter’s Promoted Tweets which is designed for businesses. Facebook Highlight is for the end-user.
Facebook doesn’t seem to be betting the farm on Highlight, since the user who leaked the test was in New Zealand — a more isolated but English-speaking location where Facebook seems to test features it doesn’t want too many people to know about. That’s smart because it could erode the site’s sense of community. On Facebook, what’s supposed to matter is how interesting your posts are, not how deep your wallet

Women Are More Likely Than Men to Have a Blog What?

[Digital Gender Divide Nielsen]

A report released Friday, Nielsen found that women, overall, are significantly more likely to engage with social media than men. Per Nielsen’s Internet-usage index, women are 8% more likely than the average online adult to build or update a personal blog — while men are 9% less likely to do so. Similarly, women are 18% more likely than the baseline American to follow a brand on Facebook or other social media sites … while men are 21% less likely. Have created at least one social networking profile? Women: 6% more likely to have done that. Men: 7% less likely. Used the Internet to purchase a product featured on TV?

Lladies: 12% more likely. The dudes: 14% less likely. These are striking discrepancies — particularly because they’re not just about purchasing trends. (It’s long been documented — and Nielsen reiterates it in this report — that women are the more active gender when it comes to digital brands and online purchasing. Just as they tend to dominate with traditional brands and analog purchasing.) The Nielsen findings suggest an intriguing generality, though, to women’s digital affinities: The ladies aren’t just more likely to buy stuff online; they’re more likely to be online in the first place. They’re more likely to blog. They’re more likely to be on Facebook or Twitter. They’re more likely, in general, to represent themselves as digital personas. That’s fascinating, in particular, because it’s part of a clear trend. A June 2010 comScore study found that women, globally, spend more time online than men (24.8 hours a month for women, as compared to 22.9 hours for men.) A September 2011 report from Rebtel, the mobile VOIP provider, found that 68% of women who use the web to stay in touch with friends, family and acquaintances do so using social media, while only 54% of men do the same. And a February 2012 report from the firm Porter Novelli found a similar breakdown: In a survey of U.K. women, 65% said they used social media at least once a week, while only 51% of men said the same. (The same survey, however, found results that contradict one element of today’s Nielsen findings: Men, it concluded, were more likely than women to write their own blogs, read others’ blogs, and comment on others’ blogs.) And a February Pew survey determined that “women use Facebook more than men,” with women averaging 11 updates a week — compared to 6 updates for their male counterparts. Those are striking findings, and worth many, many follow-up studies. They’re also a good reason for optimism when it comes to the web as an agent of social change.

4 Ways to Outdo Your Competitors

All budding entrepreneurs often hesitate to follow their business dreams because they believe their target market is already so saturated that there simply is no more room to absorb any new entrants. However, savvy small business owners can make it in a crowded field, even one filled with a couple of 800-pound gorillas. The key to your business’ success doesn’t hinge on finding a completely empty field, but how you define your company and its place in the market. Here are four easy ways to set yourself apart from the din of voices in your industry. Do you have any tips for making it in a crowded market? Let us know in the comments.

1. You Don’t Have to Reinvent the Wheel

Many first-time entrepreneurs make the mistake of thinking they need to blaze a new trail to be successful. Of course, the market always needs innovators, but a business doesn’t necessarily have to be disruptive in order to succeed.
Rather than struggling to come up with a brand new idea, take a look at your target industry and see where there’s a void to be filled. Then, figure out the best possible way to service that need and run with it. Starbucks wasn’t the first company to sell coffee, but they did revolutionize the coffee shop by selling an experience along with a caffeine fix.
These days there may be more than 17,000 Starbucks all over the world, but other coffeehouses around the country are finding a niche. From Smokey Row in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rock City Café in Rockland, Maine, local coffee shops are succeeding by promising more than a cup of coffee and a place to sit. They’re tapping into some of the most primal elements — community, connectedness, security and comfort.
Your product and service may be similar in many aspects to that of the competition, except for a few defining factors — and those are the key to everything. You should be good (or great) at all the basics, and then put your energy and focus on being exceptional at what makes you different.

2. Customer-Centric Companies Win

When trainer Chris Stevenson wanted to open a fitness center in Southern California, many questioned the decision. Here he was, in the heart of the recession, starting a business in an area that was already saturated with multiple boutique gyms and two large, corporate, chain fitness centers competing for the same customers from the same nearby neighborhoods.
Yet despite contending against huge chains with deep pockets and big advertising budgets, Stevenson Fitnessis hugely successful today. Why? Chris focused on creating a one-of-a-kind culture at his company that defies people’s expectations of what a fitness center can be. There’s no snootiness, intimidation or pretentiousness at Stevenson Fitness. Yes, it offers top-caliber facilities and a great range of classes, but what sets Stevenson Fitness apart is the friendly, approachable personality of the entire staff. The tag line “Your community, your gym” says it all. His company continues to grow because customers love what Chris’s company gives them.
No matter how big your business gets and how much staff you bring on, I always advise business owners and top management to stay as close to their customers as possible. Talking to customers one-on-one is the best way to truly take the pulse of the market, customer needs and just how your company is doing.

3. Don’t Compete on Price

Eager to attract customers, many small businesses feel the only way they can compete in a crowded market is to undercut the competition on price. I have to admit that my husband and I fell into this same trap with our company — we dropped our prices to unsustainable levels. Our business grew, customers were happy, more customers came in, yet we were nearly losing money with every new order.
This happens to many small businesses in crowded markets. They find themselves running as fast as they can, yet they are still barely bringing in enough money to keep their operations afloat. Faced with this situation, what we did do? We repositioned from competing on price to competing on service.
In a saturated market, someone will always be able (or willing) to absorb a lower cost than you. You’ll need to find a new way to stand out; for us, this was by offering personal service. We began providing free business consultations to everyone who wanted one. We increased our customer service. We even increased our prices to support the higher service levels, and we saw sales and repeat business rise. The key was defining who we were and what made us different, and then focusing on being as exceptional as possible in those differentiating areas.

4. Saturation Can Mean Strength

A competitive and crowded industry indicates that customer demand exists, and that the market is viable. If you carve your own niche, there will be room for your business.
If you’re considering starting a business, don’t be disheartened if a lot of other companies are already offering a similar kind of product or service. You should still look before you leap and do your research on how you can stand out, but don’t let the idea of a saturated market stand in your way

Top 10 CPM Advertising Networks

If your visitors come from search engines, they will be more likely to click on your banners, so you’ll get a higher CTR (click to rate). This situation is perfect for CPC (cost per click) campaigns and Google AdSense is well known for its good results. If your visitors come from various referrals or directly by tapping your blog address in the address bar, they won’t click or hardly click on these banners. What can you do? You still have some good options. In this situation, one or more CPM advertising networks will be great for you. Some of them pay really well, and don’t care about the CTR. All that really counts is your number of daily impressions, because what you’ll get is based on the CPMs.

Technorati Media

It’s relatively easy to get in the Technorati Media network. It is a very popular CPM network, with some decent rates. What is good about TM is that they count all your impressions (of course, if you have banners everywhere). The eCPM is sometimes at 2$, but in average the rate stays above 0.3 – 0.4$, which is a really good rate. The bad thing is that TM pays with checks in a NET 60 method, so you’ll receive your earnings 60 days after your payment request.

TrafficRevenue

TrafficRevenue has a very simple website and a minimalist report. They pay very well if you choose a sliding banner (3.44$ for 1.000 visitors) but that might be a little bit disturbing for your users. TR has also normal IAB banners (different types like 728×90, 458×60, 300×250, 160×600 or 120×600) with very good eCPM rates, at 0.4 – 0.6$. They pay with PayPal and the minimum balance is 5$. You just have to create an account.

CPMonly

It’s easy to get in, easy to manage your reports. You’ll talk with the CPMonly staff by e-mail and they will configure your adtags. The good thing is that you can set default adtags from a different network and CPMonly will only show ads when their rate is higher than the rate of your default ad network. Try it in combination with Technorati Media. They have a 85% – 90% fill rate, with an average eCPM at 0.45$.

Smowtion

Smowtion has excellent support, great reports and high CPM rates. It’s easy to get in (only a registration needed) and very easy to set all up. Smowtion Media counts every impression and they declare 100% fill rate. Payments are made with PayPal, checks or MasterCard. Just give it a try.

Alerte Media

Alerte Media works really fine as a CPM network. The CPM rates start at 0.25$ and the minimum payout is 15$ (PayPal). Payouts are every 15th of each month. Almost every website is accepted.

Altitude Digital Partners

ADP is a good CPM network, but it’s a little bit difficult to get in if you don’t have a content-rich website.
They do have great CPM rates (sometimes >1$), excellent reports and a good support.

IDG Tech Network

If your website is tech oriented and content-rich, with a larger number of posts about gadgets, apps,
social media and so on, IDG will work great for you.

Casale Media

Not everybody is accepted by Casale Media, but if you have a high quality website, content-rich and
attractive, and with a minimum of 25.000 monthly unique visitors, just try to apply.
They have a 70% revenue share, lot of ad sizes and a great support. They pay with PayPal or checks
in a NET 30 method.

Tribal Fusion

When we talk about ad networks, Tribal Fusion is state of the art. Everything is fantastic, with CPM
rates above 2$, excellent support and reports. TF will accept only websites with more than
500.000 unique visitors per month and this is a real issue for the vast majority of the bloggers.
Tribal Fusion motivates you to work harder on your content and your community. Success never
comes overnight.

Federated Media

Like Tribal Fusion, Federated Media is another super ad network, with a stunning portofolio of authors
like Trend Hunter, Boing Boing, Mashable, Make and so on. Everything is superb. Each site
in the FM fold subscribes to a core set of values: strong voice and point of view,
accuracy to the facts, engagement with its community, responsibility, integrity and
transparency.

You will probably try at the begining some CPM advertising networks like Technorati Media,
TrafficRevenue, Alerte or Smowtion. Concentrate on your content, try to not disturb your users
with many ads, do not use pop-ups or pop-unders because they mess up the user experience,
think how to grow up your page views and everything will be just fine.
